Our garage mudroom renovation was almost complete but one last thing I wanted to do was install flooring. The existing concrete floors can be challenging to clean and are cold to walk on barefoot. We decided to update the floors by adding a peel and stick floor from Amazon and they were just what this space needed!! Not only were these a breeze to install but they were very cost effective costing less than $2/square foot.
With concrete, it’s recommended to prepare the floors by cleaning them very well. I just used water and a rag to get remove any dirt or debris from the floor. Then I applied the recommended floor primer sold by Floor pop for their peel and stick tiles. I used a nap roller to apply the primer and let dry fully before installing the floors.
Products needed:
FloorPops Peel and stick floors
Peel and stick transition strip
To install these floors, I needed the following tools:
level (or something with a straight edge)
pencil
For the straight cuts, I measured and drew my cut line on my tile. Then I used the level to give me a straight edge to cut against and scored my pencil line with the utility knife. Once I scored through the top layer of the tile, I just had to bend and snap the tile, peel the back off the tile, and it was ready to install. For cutting around odd angles, like the curve of the steps, I used a tool called a contour gauge. To use this, you press the tool into the odd angle, then lock the pins into place. From there, you take the tool to the piece you need to cut and trace your curve onto the piece of flooring before making your cut. This product is a must have for any flooring, trim or woodworking project!

After I finished cutting and laying all the floor tile, the last thing I needed to do was add a transition strip to where the tiles meet the concrete floor. This just gives it all a finished look!

And it’s finished! This was such a simple DIY that anyone can do and will make an instant statement to any space!
It’s been almost 8 months since I’ve installed this and it still looks great, no tiles are peeling up anywhere and it’s been very easy to clean! I would 10/10 recommend this product to anyone looking for an inexpensive project to make a big statement!
